Jimothy Extension for Pterodactyl Blueprint

Description

Jimothy Extension for Pterodactyl Blueprint

Jimothy (Pterodactyl Blueprint extension) A tiny, cosmetic-only Blueprint extension for the Pterodactyl client panel, starring "Jimothy" — the short-spined Seattle raccoon that went viral in July 2026. The avatar is a set of custom GIF animations (original artwork made for this project, not photos of the real raccoon). What he does • Scurries to a random spot on screen every few seconds using the running-gait GIF. • When he arrives, settles into one of three idle animations, picked at random: sitting front-facing, sniffing a flower, or sipping a soda. • Fully draggable with mouse or touch — pick him up and drop him anywhere; he sits at the new spot and resumes wandering after a short pause. • A quick click/tap (not a drag) makes him hop and enter follow mode: he chases the cursor, sits when he catches up, and takes off again when it moves away. Clicking him again releases him back to wandering. (Follow mode is mouse-only — on touch devices there's no cursor to chase, so he just sits until tapped again.) • Remembers his last position per-browser via localStorage (jimothy::lastpos). • Faces the direction he's moving (art faces right; CSS-flipped for leftward runs). No server-side state, no database table, no per-user data, nothing sent off the page. Structure The shipped GIFs are the 128x128 versions (80-290 KB each, 790 KB total) — the widget displays at 110px, so these are effectively 1:1 and keep page weight low. 480x480 masters exist; to swap them in for extra crispness on high-DPI screens, just replace the files in public/ (same names) and rebuild — but note that's 5.6 MB of GIFs loaded by every panel visitor. Everything in public/ is reachable by anyone who can hit the panel's domain, logged in or not. Fine for raccoon GIFs; don't add anything else there. Why dashboard.wrapper instead of dashboard.components Blueprint's own guidance is to default to dashboard.components (Components.yml) for almost everything, since it renders inside React's tree and stays in sync with it. Jimothy is the documented exception: a self-contained floating widget with no need to read panel/React state, that should persist across client-side route navigation without remounting. dashboard.wrapper renders once, outside the React bundle, which is exactly that behavior. Everything in the widget is namespaced with a jimothy- prefix (element IDs, CSS classes, keyframes, the localStorage key) so it can't collide with another installed extension or with Pterodactyl's own styles. Installing (dev panel) 1. Copy this directory into your Blueprint dev extensions folder (or wherever you run blueprint -init/-build from), e.g. .blueprint/dev/jimothy/. 2. Confirm info.target in conf.yml matches your panel's Blueprint version (blueprint -version). It's currently set to beta-2026-06 — check blueprint.zip/releases for the current codename if yours differs. 3. blueprint -build (or -install if this is the first install), then reload the client panel — Jimothy should appear within a few seconds. If he shows as a broken image, check that https:///extensions/jimothy/jimothyidlefront.gif loads directly in a browser — if it 404s, the data.public symlink didn't get created; re-run the build/install. Packaging for distribution Then do a clean blueprint -remove → blueprint -install of the exported .blueprint file to confirm it behaves identically to the dev-directory version before sharing it. Customizing • Speed / wander frequency: SPEED (px/sec) and the rand(4000, 12000) idle-delay range near the top of the block in wrapper.blade.php. • Follow behavior: FOLLOWSPEED (chase speed), STOPDIST (how close he gets to the cursor before sitting), STARTDIST (how far it must move before he gives chase again — keep it larger than STOPDIST or he'll flicker between states). • Add/remove idle animations: drop the GIF in public/ and add/remove its entry in the IDLESRCS array — one line. Each time he sits, one is picked at random. • Swap the art entirely: replace the GIFs (same names) or point RUNSRC/IDLESRCS at new files. Only requirements: square frames, art facing right, transparent background. Known quirks • prefers-reduced-motion disables the hop and (via the browser) positional transitions, but animated GIFs themselves keep playing — that's inherent to GIF; a truly static reduced-motion variant would need a poster PNG swap. • The GIF restarts from frame one on every state change (that's just how img.src swaps work) — invisible in practice since the loops are short. License MIT — see LICENSE. The GIF artwork is original work made for this project (not photos or footage of the real Jimothy) and is covered by the same license. Credits Inspired by Jimothy), the short-spined raccoon who went viral out of Seattle in July 2026. Not affiliated with him in any official capacity — he's just a good boy who deserved a panel widget.
